40 year old V-word

The reason why the movie "40-year-old Virgin" was so successful, besides
the fact that it is spectacularly written, was because it is not normal
for a 40-year-old male to be a virgin. Just the idea of it is so funny
to us, but why? When we heard of one of our classmates actually having a
40-year-old friend who was a virgin, the class started cracking up. I
wonder to myself what does that say about society? We apparently care
about other people's private decisions a little too much. In the movie,
it is his co-workers that make it a mission to get Andy laid--to change
him.
Also, as discussed in class, virginity is associated with immaturity,
but clearly shown in the movie it was the opposite that proved this
assumption wrong. Andy was actually very mature in the way that he
handles business and his new relationship, whereas his co-workers were
playing video games, watching pornos, etc. I find that very
interesting...maybe when you are a virgin you don't know what you are
missing so your focus isn't distracted; but once you lose your
virginity, its all downhill from there!
